How we get our gold prices
We take the price of pure gold (24K) in Saudi riyals from the data provider metals.dev and derive every other karat by purity: 21K = 21 ÷ 24 = 87.5% of the 24K price. The shop price is an estimate: (market price + an average making charge per gram) × 1.15 for VAT.
Price source and timing
- Source: metals.dev, a global precious-metals data provider that quotes gold directly in Saudi riyals.
- Prices refresh in your browser every 10 minutes, and the pages themselves are rebuilt several times a day. Each price page shows its last update in Riyadh time.
- If the feed returns an impossible figure (zero, or off by a large factor), we ignore it, keep the last good price and show a warning if updates fall behind.
From 24K to every karat
| Karat | Purity | Market price | Shop formula | Est. shop price |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 24K | 24/24 = 100% | 492.90 | bullion: × 1.035, no VAT | 510.15 |
| 22K | 22/24 = 91.7% | 451.82 | (price + 9) × 1.15 | 529.95 |
| 21K | 21/24 = 87.5% | 431.29 | (price + 12) × 1.15 | 509.78 |
| 18K | 18/24 = 75% | 369.67 | (price + 67) × 1.15 | 502.18 |
| 14K | 14/24 = 58.3% | 287.52 | (price + 57) × 1.15 | 396.20 |
The making charge is a national average per gram, the same figures the Dhahabi app uses. Real making charges vary by shop and by piece; work out yours with the shop-price check.
VAT and bullion
Jewellery carries 15% VAT on the full amount. Investment bullion (99% purity or more) is VAT-exempt, so we price it at market × 1.035 as an estimated dealer margin. Reference: ZATCA.
Selling price (used gold)
When you sell, a shop pays for the metal only: the market price for the karat minus a margin we estimate at 5 SAR per gram. Making charge and VAT are not refunded.
Dollars, units and zakat
- We convert to US dollars at the official peg of 3.75 riyals per dollar (Saudi Central Bank).
- One troy ounce = 31.1034768 g; one tola = 11.6638 g.
- The zakat nisab is 85 g of pure gold, and zakat is 2.5% of the value.
Limits
Shop and selling prices are estimates of a national average. We do not buy or sell gold, and we give no investment advice.
